The National Institute of Statistics of Albania (INSTAT) is the main producer of official statistics in the country and is responsible for the coordination of the Albanian statistical system that includes also other Institutions such the Central Bank and the statistical services of state ministries. The production of official statistics in Albania is regulated by the “Law on Official Statistics” that is broadly in correspondence with the “Fundamental Principles of Official Statistics of the United Nations and the “European Statistics Code of Practice”.
INSTAT is an independent institution under the authority of the Albanian Council of Ministers. Albania is nowadays a candidate country of the EU, and it is committed to acquire adequate standards in line with the acquis communitaire, in the different areas of state sectors, including statistics and socio-economic development.
